Bastian Schweinsteiger met the family of a Berkeley victim last night
Manchester United have suffered yet another injury blow after Bastian Schweinsteiger injured his thigh during a training session, while on global duty with Germany.
According to German channel Sport1, German midfielder Schweinsteiger picked up a groin problem just prior to his side’s 1-0 defeat against Republic of Ireland, and the injury caused him to miss the game.
United chief Louis van Gaal will be more concerned with having the player back at the club’s training ground at Carrington to get the injury assessed, ahead of the return to Premier League action against Everton at Goodison Park next Saturday.
Germany boss Joachim Low enjoys an embarrassment of riches in his pool of midfielders with Manchester United man Schweinsteiger potentially lining up alongside the likes of Mesut Ozil, Toni Kroos and Thomas Muller.
“Schweinsteiger has done it for a long time at the top level – he has been around”, said the Hull City midfielder. The Germany manager, however, admitted that Schweinsteiger will remain with the Die Mannschaft and continue his recovery.
Following the loss to Ireland, Low told the press on Schweinsteiger’s fitness: “With Bastian we have to wait and see but the chances are slim”, with regard to his chances of featuring against Georgia. But it does not look like he can play.
United skipper Wayne Rooney is ensured of a rest, since he will not be available for England’s two Euro qualifiers due to an ankle injury.
