Bataclan Owners Issue Statement Following Paris Terrorist Attack
A Facebook page titled “Eagles of Death Metal for No. 1” was launched over the weekend, according to the site, by a handful of British-based “regular gig-goers” with no ties to the band’s organization, its management, marketing or music label.
The band released the following statement about the cancelation, “Much has been said, as well as seen, on every media outlet about the events in Paris”. Safety is obviously a concern for these rock stars as well, but all seem to be genuinely broken up over the tragedy.
The band members of Eagles of Death Metal may have escaped the Paris attacks relatively unscathed, but a member of their tour – merchandise manager Nick Alexander – was gunned down in the Bataclan theatre.
The band, which also goes by the acronym EODM, was on stage Friday night at the Bataclan concert hall in Paris when gunmen opened fire with automatic rifles, killing scores of people in the largest loss of life in the attacks across Paris. Sadly, he did not make it out alive. Thank you for your thoughts and respect for our family at this hard time.
They canceled this week’s planned performances for the now infamous venue this week.
The likes of U2 and Foo Fighters have cancelled upcoming shows in Paris and elsewhere in Europe following the attacks.
Eagles of Death Metal was formed in 1998 in Palm Desert, California. According to CBS News correspondent Mark Phillips, the Irish rockers were scheduled to perform in Paris over the weekend, with one of those performances to be broadcast on HBO. Among the artists who have delivered messages are Taylor Swift, Pharrell Williams, Justin Bieber, Jared Leto, AC/DC, Sam Smith, Snoop Dogg, Justin Timberlake and more.
