Batboy struck during warmup swing in Kansas dies
A 9-year-old batboy remains in critical condition after being hit with a bat during a Saturday baseball game, according to officials at Via Christi Hospital St. Francis in Wichita, Kansas.
Sunday, the team’s Facebook page posted: “Hey fans, the situation with Kaiser this morning is very much the same as it was last night: Still in critical condition, but hanging in there”.
Wearing a helmet is mandatory during the World Series, an NBC spokesman told The Wichita Eagle. A spokesman for the National Baseball Congress says the child was wearing a helmet, which is mandatory.
An Umpire responded immediately, and the emergency personnel soon arrived. “He was a Godsend that we had him behind the plate today”.
McCaffrey, who was at the game, said one of his team’s batters accidentally hit Carlile during a warmup swing as the boy was retrieving a bat that had just been used. He has been our batboy for most of the games this summer.
“Just to see him fall, that’s what crushes you”, McCaffrey via CNN, before adding the team wanted to go to the hospital, but the family asked that they not do so.
The team took a moment to gather in a circle and pray as an ambulance took Kaiser to a hospital.
The Bee Jays, of Liberal, Kansas, play in the Jayhawk League.
McCaffrey said: ‘We appreciate everyone’s love, support, thoughts and prayers during this time.
Haysville Aviators General Manager Grant Jones had the letters “KC” drawn on his teams hat, as a way to show that Kaiser was in the teams thoughts and prayers. Information will be appropriately released as it’s made available.
