Battlefield 1 on PS4 Pro packs higher frame rate for multiplayer advantage
Sony Interactive Entertainment has recently made available for download 4.06 firmware for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 4 Pro.
And now, that console has its competition. This worked just fine until Sony released their new 4.0.5 firmware update.
Once reports start coming in that the new update actually does stabilize the platform instead of creating some more issues, everyone should update their console. At first glance, this might be a little confusing – which one should you buy if you’re just getting into the PS4 for the first time? A reasonable price for a brand-new way to game. We’ve spent some time with Sony’s PS4 Pro, and here’s what we think.
This looks like a win-win for both console makers, in that you can imagine high-spending consumers alternating upgrade cycles between Xbox and Playstation. Looking at graphics, the PS4 Pro version has a resolution advantage over the PS4, with better textures, effects, and terrain details.
Storage has been upped compared to the launch console too, with 1TB on offer from the PS4 Pro. The site reportedly tested the original PS4 with the PS4 Pro side by side. A spreadsheet, compiled by tech YouTuber, ShanktheTank points out all of the current titles with the PS4 Pro update and whether or not they’ve received native 4K as their output resolution.
Let’s break down the PS4 Pro situation. Take for example one user who complained about the console not working properly on an LG OLED65E6 TV unit, whereas another PS4 Pro owner who owns the same TV model managed to get the device to run perfectly. A bundle of PS4 games now feature HDR, increased frame rates, visual flourishes, and even 4K resolution – a stretch for PCs even a couple years old.
Watch Dogs 2, for instance, attempts to inject some additional graphical touches but that brings with it screen tearing and FPS drops on the new hardware.
Full warranty comes with the PS4 Pro as Antonline is an authorized Sony dealer.
Frame rate is said to be the focus of the PS4 Pro. “So the brightly coloured cars out there are now going to look ideal in the game”. With the holidays coming up, that’s a discount worth taking note of. Players can choose between a high-quality rendering mode and a more lightweight option that seems to be on par visually with the original PlayStation 4.
In the end, the greatest value for the PS4 Pro remains on the horizon – and that horizon is very bright. As 4K televisions become more standard, the Pro will make more sense. Once that happens, and the gaming landscape begins to catch up, the PS4 Pro will begin to show its true value. That means higher frame rates and gaming that’s so much smoother. Also, keep in mind to use numerous PS4 Pro’s features, you need to invest in a 4K, HDR TV, which considerably adds to the cost.
There’s no pressing need to own a PS4 Pro right now, but the machine is the future of gaming until the PlayStation 5 era. PlayStation has told me it has a mandate against games running worse on Pro than the standard, so I expect issues to remain limited.
