Battlefront is the biggest Star Wars game ever
Launched on Microsoft’s Xbox One and Sony’s PS4 in the United Kingdom 17 November, developer EA restricted pre-sale marketing of Star Wars Battlefront to the Japanese brand – which looked to capitalise upon the chart-topping game to propel console sales in the run-up to Christmas. It became the biggest selling Star Wars game launch in United Kingdom history. “Our goal is not to make video games directly about the movies, it’s to use the IP in the movie to make great, exciting games”.
Star Wars Battlefront is to shooters what Mario Kart is to racing games. “The success of “Star Wars Battlefront” will be largely dictated by how it does digitally”.
Matt Titus, a shareholder in EA and a portfolio supervisor at American Century Investment Management, termed Monday’s inventory transfer an “over-response”, including that the Star Wars title had “a few of the strongest pre-orders within the historical past of gaming”. The third-party website aptly named Star Wars Battlefront Statistics developed by Player Stats Network has been keeping track of the total player count for the game across the three platforms it is available in. Out of these 89,000 players, at least 48,000 are from the PC version of the game while the other 104,000 are Xbox One players. While the numbers are in the hundreds of thousands, EA has yet to reveal the company’s delight at the reception.
The videogame publisher’s shares fell as much as 7 percent on Monday after GameStop said its sales of “Star Wars: Battlefront” were weaker than anticipated.
