Battleship Iowa ceremony marks 74th anniversary of Pearl Harbor attack
Tauyan said everyone came together to honor and remember the war dead and those who survived the attack.
The three gathered on the memorial for a wreath-laying ceremony on the 74th anniversary of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. “He would have gone right over there, and he wouldn’t have stopped until the flags were lowered”. The process to acquire the Hoga began 15 years ago under former mayor Patrick Hays. “If he were still alive today, he would have been here, no matter how old or how sick he was”.
Seven survivors of the attack on Pearl Harbor 74 years Monday were honored at a ceremony aboard the USS Midway Aircraft Carrier Museum.
Michael Lund, a veteran, spoke about what Pearl Harbor means to him. “That event became a focal point for America going forward from just being a nation to becoming a world power”. The attack led the United States into World War II. “I’m overwhelmed and excited to see this”, the veteran said.
“I’m one of the younger World War II veterans”.
Community members, veterans and families gathered to honor Kozien and other servicemen.
Next year, the 75th anniversary of pearl harbor will be commemorated.
“I try to keep myself busy, not think about it too much”, he said with watery eyes as he sat on his porch.
‘So we did shoot down two planes due to the fact that we were that close to battleship row, ‘ says Luckett. “It was one of the most unbelievable things in my life”.
The U.S. Navy and National Park Service hosted Monday’s ceremony in remembrance of those killed on December 7, 1941. Dr. Hiroya Saguno has been conducting this act of reconciliation with the National Park Service at the USS Arizona Memorial for the last 20 years.
After the ceremony, people lined up to shake hands, thank and take photos with the survivors. He watched his ship sink within minutes. More than 400,000 of them were killed. For 3 days, we was picking up bodies and taking them to the hospital.
