Bayern loses Robben in Ancelotti’s first match as coach
The Bayern Munich winger suffered an adductor/groin injury during Saturday’s pre-season friendly away against fifth-tier outfit SV Lippstadt.
Tests carried out on Sunday morning have confirmed an adductor muscle injury which will keep the 32-year-old out of action until beyond the first game of the 2016/17 Bundesliga season.
He used a 4-3-3 system and Bayern were 3-0 up at half-time before crumbling in the second half.
Manager Carlo Ancelotti will be saddened to potentially lose one of his star attackers.
Manchester City have been warned off making a move for impressive Bayern Munich youngster Joshua Kimmich, with Carlo Ancelotti stating that he will “100%” be staying put.
Douglas Costa enjoyed a mesmerising maiden campaign at the Allianz Arena last season and will be expected to step up once again with Robben out, while Thomas Muller always carries a creative responsibility.
Robben lasted just 45 minutes during the friendly, and while there wasn’t much immediate concern, the injury is apparently more serious than initially expected. “Robben will be sidelined for approximately six weeks”, a statement from the club read.
