Bayern Munich fans threaten to boycott Arsenal Champions League match
Many readers have pointed out on JustArsenal that, in all honesty, the Gunners have little or no chance of lifting the Champions League trophy at the moment, so would Wenger be right to play his reserves against Bayern Munich?
A Bayern Munich fan group will protest Arsenal’s ticket prices when the sides meet in the Champions League on Tuesday, saying that the Premier League club are pricing fans out of a chance to watch football – particularly young and less well-off fans.
A report in the Guardian highlights a post on the Facebook page of FC Bayern Worldwide, which claims that Bayern supporters were charges a minimum of £64 to attend the match at the Emirates.
The cheapest ticket at Bayern’s Allianz Arena is €30 (£22), but their fans are regularly forced to pay far more at away games in Europe.
It called on all Bayern fans who will be at the game to join the action, under the slogan, “64 pounds a ticket but without fans football is not worth a penny”.
A recent study found the average price of a ticket in England’s top flight is £52.76, while the cost of a ticket in Germany’s Bundesliga comes in at £23.02.
“In England, this development has already occurred”.
“In Zagreb, for example, you could get tickets in the Main Stand for their Champions League qualifier for €4”.
‘We want to protest at the price structure and at the same time changes in the stadia. We want associations and clubs to remember their social responsibilities and warn them against continuing to saw away at this branch which we are all sitting on together.
“The first 5 minutes of the game in London will be the way the football will look like in the future if this madness continues. In the following 85 minutes we want to show the alternative and show how fundamentally important a lively fan-culture is for football”.
