Bayern Munich toils to win, Dortmund flying in Bundesliga
Robert Lewandowski, Xabi Alonso and Rafinha turned the game around, though, to extend Bayern’s flawless start to the season.
“It was a really hard game for us”, said Bayern coach Carlo Ancelotti. “There’s no need for us to stockpile players”, he told Sport Bild.
Mathew Leckie sent Lezcano on his way through and he managed to poke his shot past Manuel Neuer, who got a touch on the ball but only helped it on its way into the top corner of his goal.
Ingolstadt coach Markus Kauczinski had likened a win for his side against Bayern to winning the lottery, and he must have felt he had the right ticket when his side took an eighth-minute lead.
The lead lasted just five minutes as Poland’s Lewandowski curled his shot past the reach of Ingolstadt’s goalkeeper Orjan Nyland for his 11th goal of the season for club and country.
Bayern nevertheless lacked their usual zip and verve, with Ingolstadt doing a good job in nullifying their threat and also finding several good opportunities to score again on the counter-attack.
Later Borussia Monchengladbach scored three goals in the opening 21 minutes of their 4-1 thrashing of ten-man Werder Bremen.
Thorgan Hazard and Raffael, one a penalty, grabbed two goals apiece.
Having hammered six goals past Legia Warsaw in the Champions League on Wednesday, Borussia Dortmund rested stars Mario Gotze and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – but still thrashed 10-man Darmstadt 6-0.
With their attack in full flow, Dortmund’s third goal followed minutes later when U.S. worldwide midfielder Christian Pulisic, who turns 18 on Sunday, tapped home.
To make matters worse for Darmstadt, they lost their captain Peter Niemeyer to a red card in the second half.
Elsewhere, Wolfsburg drew a blank in Hoffenheim with a goalless draw keeping both sides’ unbeaten starts to the season intact, while Eintracht Frankfurt beat Bayer Leverkusen 2-1.
Alexander Meier put the Eagles in front early in the second half, but Mexico global Javier Hernandez levelled soon after.
The Bayern Munich juggernaut rolls on, coming off their commanding win over Rostov in the Champions League and looking to reclaim first place in the Bundesliga after Köln took it temporarily on Friday.
Their closest rivals, ahead of Hertha Berlin’s clash with Schalke on Sunday, are now Leipzig, who followed up their 1-0 win over Borussia Dortmund last weekend with a 4-0 win at Hamburg.
