Bayless, Carter-Williams get 17 in Bucks’ 2OT win over Cavs
Cleveland Cavaliers forward LeBron James (23) leaps to pass the… After LeBron James blocked Jerryd Bayless’ layup, the Cavs had a 5 on 4 transition advantage and were looking to run on the retreating Bucks. Davis, though, heard players and assistant coaches on the Cleveland bench asking for a timeout so he granted it to the Cavs.
Just as in their first meeting this season, when the Cavaliers rallied for a 96-86 victory in Cleveland on November 4, the Knicks built an early lead that the Cavs chipped away at. Williams then nailed a jumper, and after Afflalo missed on the other end, Williams hit four free throws.
Love is averaging 17.6 points and 12 rebounds per game, while posting a PER of 20.2. Forward Carmelo Anthony led the Knicks (4-6) with 26 points, but only scored four points in the second half.
Jefferson played on a sore right ankle he injured in Friday’s win at the NY Knicks, while Smith played with a bruised right hand that was heavily taped before the game. LeBron has 62 points and 14 assists in his last two games.
This James wants a second Finals appearance to be the end result of a respecting of the long, arduous 82-game regular season, and not something the Cavs take for granted.
Cleveland trailed by six points with 5min 24sec to go before James and Williams seized the moment.
Again, James was a dominant force for the Cavs, dropping in seven points during the first extra session. Cleveland struggled at the line, converting only 18 of 31 for 58 percent. But the Knicks leading scorer made just one of nine shots in the second half. The Cavaliers are being picked to win the East and get back to the finals by almost every National Basketball Association expert because of the lack of competition and great talent on the team. Trying to make a push, see if we could change the momentum.
James’ turnaround jumper over Carmelo Anthony with 1:16 left gave the Cavs an 84-82 lead, their first of the second half.
Lamb missed a three-pointer with 27 seconds left that would have tied it at 100.
Bayless canned a 13-foot floater with 45.2 seconds left in regulation to put the Bucks up by four, 88-84, but the Cavaliers (8-2) closed with a flurry.
Anthony poured in 14 points in the first quarter on 5-of-6 shooting from the floor, and had 22 by intermission on 8-of-11 shooting. However, the Cavaliers responded with a vengeance when Williams tossed up a near half-court lob pass to James, who threw down a two-handed dunk.
A tough early schedule threatened to wipe out the Knicks’ season nearly before it began, but they have been able to pull a few positives out of the sub-.500 record.
Free throws continue to be a weakness in LeBron’s game, but so does the three ball. They travel to Milwaukee on Saturday and to Detroit on November 17…. He came into Friday averaging 11.6 points and 9.0 rebounds in just 24.7 minutes per game, the first Knick to have 100 points, 90 rebounds and nine 3-pointers in the first nine games of his career – and he’s just finding his footing.
