BBC pundits strongly disagree when predicting Leicester’s title run
Vardy’s goals have helped fire the Foxes to the top of the Premier League, Claudio Ranieri’s men have the joint-highest goal tally alongside Manchester City, scoring 48 times in just 26 outings.
Mahrez has scored 14 goals and registered 10 assists in 25 league games for first-placed Leicester, meaning their title bid is very much alive at this point thanks in-part to his efficiency.
“I said before the Arsenal match that Norwich would be more hard”.
Last seen in the Premier League leading Chelsea before his exit in 2004, the Italian has since been through seven clubs elsewhere before taking charge of Leicester City at the beginning of the season. They face a truly bad Norwich side that has conceded 18 goals in their last six league matches.
Riyad Mahrez has often been linked with a move away from the KP Stadium following Leicester’s brilliant upturn in form, and Ranieri has said he won’t stand in the Algerian winger’s way if the bigger clubs come calling. But they were kept in check as Norwich played Leicester at its own game, sitting deep and then looking to hit the opposition on the break.
After their defeat at Emirates Stadium, Leicester’s players were handed a week off by Ranieri in a bid to end their season with a flourish – and he hopes it will prove key to their upcoming fixtures. “If he thinks about other teams he comes with me on the bench”.
Norwich’s 2-2 draw at home to West Ham last time out stopped a miserable run of five defeats on the spin, but having been 2-0 up with quarter of an hour to play, even that result would have felt like a loss for spectators and players alike. “I gambled with them – we did not achieve nine points because we lost to Arsenal but they played well”. “I want my players to concentrate”.
It’s the kind of thing that’s been said all season – many believe in Leicester and many continue to call for them to collapse (seemingly every week).
The midfielder signed from Caen in August and has played in all 27 leagues games under Ranieri, his all-action style the epitome of Leicester’s approach that has brought so many plaudits.
Champions Chelsea fought back with late goals from Cesc Fabregas and Branislav Ivanovic to earn an excellent 2-1 win at Southampton.
On Saturday we are at home to Boreham Wood too and both games are very tough for us.
“I thought our game plan and the players’ performance was all you could expect from us and I’m absolutely gutted”.
