BBC ‘threaten to suspend’ presenter over Tyson Fury criticism
West was among thousands of people who signed a petition calling for Fury to be removed from the shortlist over his controversial views on women and homosexuality.
According to the broadcaster, the BBBC met on Wednesday to discuss the matter before informing Fury about the compulsory meeting.
Before the Klitschko fight, Fury also criticized abortion, and said doping should be legalized in all sports to make it “fully fair”. We don’t hear about the good things I’m doing. Whatever somebody does, it’s not up to me to judge them, it’s not up to you to judge them. It is what it is.
The 27-year-old said he was not scared of being accused of homophobia as his religious beliefs as a Christian confirmed for him that being gay is a sin.
“Fury also said in an interview with Jeremy Vine on BBC Radio 2 this week: “‘Homosexuality, abortion and paedophilia – them three things need to be accomplished before the world finishes.
Mr Fury hit back after one of the other sportsmen to be shortlisted for the Sports Personality of the Year, Greg Rutherford, revealed he had threatened to pull out of the awards in response to the comments, but chose to stay on after an appeal from the BBC.
In 2013, he was already at the heart of a sexism row, after saying, in an interview prior to a fight at Madison Square Gardens, he’d hang his sister if she was promiscuous.
West’s comments were picked up by the news website, Buzzfeed, which quoted an anonymous BBC source as saying that the journalist/presenter was “reprimanded by a manager, told an investigation would be launched into his conduct and warned he could be suspended”.
A BBC reporter who criticised the corporation for nominating boxer Tyson Fury for the Sports Personality of the Year award says he has been suspended. I wouldn’t be a very good Christian if I hated anybody. “Jesus loves me and he loves you too… and he loves everybody in the world”, he added, smiling, as he leant out of the window of a van.
“Greater Manchester Police take every allegation of hate crime extremely seriously”, the force said, “and we will be attending the victim’s address to take a statement in due course”.
Fury has labelled that a “joke” and instead suggested he should file a complaint for abuse he claims he has received.
“If Fury had made racist comments I am certain that the BBC would have never shortlisted him”.
Rutherford wrote on his Twitter feed: “I have opinions, of which I was privately clear”. I’m not a bigot.
