BBQ or bagels? A tasty World Series set, Royals meet Mets

Didn’t hurt them against the big-hitting Cubs, either – the Mets never trailed for a single inning in that series.

Is this a refreshing matchup?

New York has a good closer in Familia and their top setup man (Tyler Clippard) had a good season, but Clippard has had a poor postseason.

But it’s possible she was just super excited about the World Series, because instead of a driver’s license she gave the responding officer a Met’s baseball card featuring second baseman Daniel Murphy. But to be honest, the understanding was, Hey, we didn’t finish it off the way we wanted to, but we’ll get a chance to do it next year.

“Yeah, I’m surprised”, Murphy said of the homers, not the fact that nobody’s dusted him yet. It will be new and fresh, and hopefully, exciting. I want our suffering natives to see a parade up the Canyon of Heroes.

“For me, the Cubs outing definitely made me think a lot and really know that I can be successful at 94, 95 [mph] and really just work on hitting spots and mixing my pitches in”, Harvey added.

What Everyone’s Talking AboutThe young power arms in the Mets’ starting rotation: Matt Harvey, Jacob deGrom, Noah Syndergaard, and Steven Matz.

The Mets pitchers are talented but inexperienced in post-season play, while its the Royals who have the post-season experience.

For nearly 50 years, cartoonist Charles Schulz entertained us with “Peanuts” and its wonderful cast of playful kids, plus Snoopy.

“To be perfectly fair”, he says “I wouldn’t mind seeing another Most Valuable Players step up in the World Series”.

This year’s baseball playoffs have been more exciting than in years. They put the ball in play and force the defense to make plays, and for two seasons it’s been a winning formula. They kicked off the season with a win in Washington against a Nationals team that was picked by most around the baseball to with it all. The Dodgers are one of the few teams moving in the opposite direction, opening their wallets wide for a team whose previous owners were on the brink of bankruptcy. I looked up to these athletes because they were like superheroes. They are dyeing pints of Bud Light orange and blue – the team’s colors – and offer blue and orange popcorn and hot dog specials.

Q: What do your friends and classmates think about the Mets being in the World Series?

For the first time since 2009, a New York team will be in the World Series.

Maybe you don’t believe in that stuff, but I bet you do. I do.

It is a “refreshing matchup” – one I didn’t call at the beginning of the baseball season.

In the Queens neighborhood of Corona, down the road from Citi Field, one deli has festooned itself in Mets flags. We’ve been thinking about next year for the past nine years. My theory is ABC – Anybody But Cardinals – and New York – no Yankees. Kansas City is returning to the World Series for the second straight year. While fans of specific teams may not care (admission: as a Royals fan, I also personally don’t care about ratings and whether you watch), the networks most certainly do care about eye balls and viewers. But the World Series? Of course. I have a lot of fond memories of watching the Series when I was growing up, even skipping school to see the games. It will be interesting to see if Dan Murphy can continue his fantastic string of home runs.
