BC family attempted to claim $50-million prize anonymously before stepping up
BCLC is pleased to announce the winners of the $50 million Lotto Max jackpot arising from the March 14, 2014 draw are Friedrich and Annand Mayrhofer and their son Eric Mayrhofer, all from Langley.
“One of which requires the ticket holder to consent to their name photo and prize being published, and that is what we’re doing today”.
The prize was claimed in March, five days before the deadline.
He says his family has been living in the same home for 30 years, so they want to remodel their home, adding his wife wants new furniture.
The fact that the ticket was claimed by a trust led to a lengthy prize claim review, said BCLC, which consulted with the Inter-Provincial Lottery Corporation (ILC), the national organization that oversees Lotto Max across Canada.
For his part, Fred Mayrhofer said his family is “quiet”.
The couple also has two other children and grandchildren but he declined to say how many.
“We have a group of advisors in place to assist (us with financial planning)”.
Happy Mayrhofer family with their prize.
“It takes a while (to sink in)”.
Mayrhofer has won the lottery before, taking smaller prizes of $1,000 win and about $3,000 a number of years ago. At the time, lottery officials confirmed the winning ticket was sold in Langley, but nobody stepped forward.
The $50-million jackpot is the largest prize ever awarded in B.C., tied with another $50-million Lotto Max win in October 2010. Lightbody added there was no connection between the winning ticket and a lawsuit filed by a Shoppers Drug Mart employee against a co-worker, claiming he had won the prize.
