BC natural disaster shakes Victoria and Vancouver area: Buildings rattle but no
The agency is in the San Juan Islands, between Vancouver Island in British Columbia and mainland Washington.
Washington and B.C. residents felt the effects of a moderate natural disaster that struck Victoria, B.C. late on December 29.
There have been no reports of damage or injuries and no tsunami warning was issued.
He says the 4.3 to 4.8 magnitude quake last night was the strongest to hit the Cascadia subduction zone – the area where coastal B-C earthquakes originate – since a 6.8 quake near Seattle in early 2001. No injuries or serious property damage were reported and Earthquakes Canada said none would be expected from a shaker of that size.
The second was a reported 4.8 magnitude quake that struck near the Fontana area in San Bernardino County in Southern California around 5:45.
Anywhere between zero and 50 aftershocks was “normal” within hours of a 4.4-magnitude quake, according to seismologist Lucy Jones, with the USGS and Caltech.

Translink tweeted that the Expo and Millennium SkyTrain were shutting down for the time being until safety could be confirmed.
A Vancouver Sun reporter, who lives in the West End of Vancouver, was awoken by the bed shaking, while another said her whole house in East Vancouver shook.
Tuesday’s early-morning quake was followed by several three-point aftershocks all Tuesday afternoon and evening.
