Be One in a Million for Heart Month
The American Heart Association is giving some powerful health IT tools to employers to use in the workplace to improve the heart health of Americans, more than 85 million of whom have cardiovascular disease.
The first class is scheduled for Friday from 11 to noon and will be in Spanish.
The Cleveland VA Medical Center is joining the nation in celebrating National Go Red Day to educate women Veterans about the risks of heart disease – the leading cause of death in American women and women Veterans, according to the American Heart Association.
Often, women’s symptoms of a heart attack can be more subtle and quite different from men. “And why women? Because we know that women are highly affected by heart disease”.
Then on Friday, everyone is asked to join the national movement to wear red all day and tell others why you to go red.
NMDoH is proud to highlight two national programs: The Million Hearts® Initiative is a national effort launched by the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) in 2011. Afterward, there will be special treats, gifts and take-home information.
On National Wear Red Day, thousands of people, including employees at many companies, national and local news anchors and talk-show hosts across the country, will wear red to support the cause.
“To be eligible for a prize, take a selfie wearing red and post it to the Gill Heart Association’s Facebook page with the hashtag “#GillGoesRed”.
Flyers with educational information and tips about how to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease will be made available to visitors to the three hospitals throughout February. This leads to women with heart conditions remaining undiagnosed or misdiagnosed.
