‘Beaches’ Movie Remake Starring Idina Menzel Greenlighted By Lifetime
Idina Menzel has been cast in the role originated by Bette Midler in the upcoming Beaches remake from Lifetime.

In addition to giving her spin on old songs from the film like “Wind Beneath My Wings” and “The Glory of Love”, she’ll be serving us several new songs to please our ears at the 2017 premiere. Probably. The Tony-winning blazing supernova has been tapped to headline a small screen remake of the 1988 movie Beaches for Lifetime.
The announcement of a Beaches remake comes one week after Marshall died at the age of 81 from complications from pneumonia. CC is a struggling singer, while Hillary, the daughter of a prominent lawyer, tries to find her own destiny. Although they come from two totally different backgrounds, the two embark on a lifelong friendship with many ups and downs.
Barbara Hershey played Hillary in the original movie.
Production on the remake will begin August 15 in Vancouver.
The original movie, from the late and great Garry Marshall, grossed $57 million domestically with “Wind Beneath My Wings” earning record and song of the year Grammys. Allison Anders (Ring of Fire) will direct the script by Bart Barker and Nikole Beckwith.
