Bears avoid Peyton Manning against Denver Broncos

He still managed to break the National Football League record for all-time passing yards, but since that’s really a record of longevity, it’s easy to assume his dip in form Sunday, and this season in general, are because of the ravages of old age.

Broncos coach Gary Kubiak decided to make the switch Monday in the aftermath of Denver’s 29-13 loss to Kansas City in which Manning was picked off four times and had a rock-bottom 0.0 passer rating in 2ﾽ quarters of work.

Though, Manning’s performance on Sunday was not an anomaly for the veteran quarterback this season. He completed one more pass to the Broncos (five) than he did the Chiefs (four). While a few of the fanfare is lost without Manning, John Fox still welcomes in his former team and you can bet that an already confident, motivated Bears team will have extra pep in their step to win this game for their coach. “I’m disappointed in myself, this is on me”.

Given what Manning has been throughout his career – a durable passer who plays through everything and (mostly) plays well while doing so – coach Gary Kubiak thought his quarterback would be fine.

“If you look back on it now, I have a hard time saying that’s why I played badly”, Manning said Sunday.

During Manning’s absence, Trevor Siemian will be the backup quarterback.

Manning came into this game dealing with various health problems, including to his right shoulder, right foot and ribs.

“All the attention is toward getting him healthy”, said Kubiak, who wouldn’t speculate how long Manning might be out. “I told him that I am here for him as a resource if he needs me, but I’m not going to be one of those extra voices in his ear. That’s how I’m going to treat it. I’m going to prepare the same way that I prepared every other week when I was the backup or whether I was starting a preseason game”. Hillman had 42 yards rushing and one touchdown and over the past three games he has scored three touchdowns for the Broncos.

Osweiler led Denver to its only points of the game on Sunday – two touchdowns, one of which he threw to Andre Caldwell.

Pro Football Focus gave Manning the worst grade they have ever given to a quarterback in a game.

And Manning, who is up to a league-worst 17 interceptions this season, delivered the understatement of the afternoon when he said: “I did not play well today”.

“Im the starter for this week at Chicago, but thats all it is, ” Osweiler said.

Lots of you were here when Manning was leading the Indianapolis Colts from 1998-2010, but not me.

Osweiler originally committed to play basketball at Gonzaga, but once his football highlight reel made the rounds, he became a hot commodity, and he ultimately switched to Arizona State. “And I think he understands the position I’m in and I sure as hell understand the type of person he is and the player he is”. Honestly, because of the disruption within the entire season with the change in offense scheme I do not know if we have a chance.
