Bears coordinator Adam Gase hired as Dolphins coach
Either way, Gase seems destined to become a head coach at some point.
Feel like the Dolphins are so close with an improved defense but a struggling Ryan Tannehill paired with a whole new coach and a whole new offensive system might be too much.
Gase, the offensive coordinator for the Chicago Bears, would become Miami’s fourth consecutive hire with no prior head coaching experience, joining former Dolphins coaches Joe Philbin, Tony Sparano and Cam Cameron.
Gase helped raise Chicago’s offense from 21st to 18th this year, with the run game averaging 3.9 yards per carry, which made Gase the hottest candidate on the market.
He was the offensive coordinator for the high-scoring Broncos in 2013-14, but also for the last-place Bears this season. Like I said, it was a long day and a half. “That’s more than half my life”. “I feel like I’ve been doing it for the last three years, I really enjoy it, I enjoy that aspect of putting the gameplan together with the offensive staff”. You’ve got your work cut out for you. “Every week is a growing experience”. In addition to the Dolphins, the Eagles, Browns and Giants also has have interviewed him.
“I don’t think you need me to sit up here and campaign for him, I guess, ” Manning said at the time. “We wanted to get the right leader”, Dolphins vice president Mike Tannenbaum said. It’s wonderful the respect Adam has in the coaching and player community. Gase is the Dolphins’ ninth coach since 2004.
Others hope Gase will lead to a more consistent and stable era of Dolphins football.
He has just begun work on hiring assistants. Tight ends coach Dan Campbell served as interim coach and also was interviewed for the job.
Gase worked at LSU for three seasons (2000-02) under Nick Saban, starting off as a defensive graduate assistant in 2000 before working in recruiting from 2001-02.
“I’m very happy for Adam”, Manning said Saturday.
“He’ll be an excellent coach without a doubt. He’s is ready for this for sure”. “He will now continue to have success in this league”. He didn’t find the right fit and spent one more year in Denver and then was the offensive coordinator for the Chicago Bears this season.
UPDATE, 11:32 a.m.: According to the Miami Herald, the move is even more imminent.
Cleveland’s search committee, headed by the Haslams, is expected to interview Cincinnati defensive coordinator Hue Jackson and Carolina defensive coordinator Sean McDermott on Sunday.
Crennel went 24-40 in four seasons, posting a 10-6 mark in 2007.
