Bears linebacker suffers knee injury late in Titans loss
He has averaged 2.46 sacks a game with Chicago, but it’s the myriad of other hits he takes during games just after he gets the ball away that have usually resulted in the injuries. “We had one guy that was playing his second game this season”.
The fact that John Fox is even flirting with the idea of going back to Cutler if he’s healthy shows that Fox is in this of himself and not for the good of the franchise. But Cutler has been more bust than boom in Chicago, and with a contract that has been widely criticized over the years, it’s time for the Bears to move on. “But all in all, I think for the guy’s first start with us, it was pretty good”.
“I thought DT coming on the in cut was a tight window”, Barkley said, “but I thought we could have made it happen”.
Tennessee travels to Chicago on Sunday to face the Bears.
The Bears had a first down at the Tennessee 7 in the final minute when Josh Bellamy dropped a pass in the end zone. It has been a while since we have seen a quarterback develop around here – no, Jay Cutler’s temporary improvement a year ago doesn’t count – so let’s remember a few things about quarterbacks. “I think it’s a testament to him and all the work he’s put in”. He tried to body catch the ball instead of using his hands, and the ball bounced off his chest. Brian Hoyer has filled in for five games this season and looked good, throwing 200 passes without a pick. “The expectation for me is to consistently be the best player that my team needs me to be”.
It’s increasingly likely they will draft a new quarterback next season to have any chance at stability.
Cox was a fifth round pick and signed after four previous seasons with the Broncos, Seahawks and 49ers.
Barkley threw two red zone interceptions in the game, as he finished 28-of-54 for 316 yards and 3 touchdowns. The guy doesn’t speak often so when he does it speaks volumes. The Bears force overtime on a 29-yard field goal with 1:59 remaining in regulation. Chicago made 25 first downs, the Titans 18.
INJURY STACK GROWS: With the Bears already missing Jerrell Freeman due to a PED suspension, the linebacker corps took another hit when starting inside linebacker Danny Trevathan went out on the Titans’ next-to-last possession with a knee injury.
Once again the Titans had to rely on the offense to carry their water. Tennessee followed that up with a Derrick Henry touchdown drive that was fueled by a Marcus Mariota to Delanie Walker love connection.
Short-term, though, him serving as a functional quarterback will allow the Bears to evaluate their spate of young players: tight ends Daniel Brown and Ben Braunecker, receiver Marquess Wilson running back Jordan Howard – and even the offensive line. The Alabama product had five carries for 46 yards including a 17-yard run. With six losses, the Titans likeliest path to the playoffs is by winning the division.
“That’s all you want, ” Mariota said.
