Bears QB Connor Shaw carted off with broken leg
Chiefs: Fifth-round pick Tyreek Hill caught a 58-yard pass from Foles in the third quarter that set up a touchdown. In three preseason games, Shaw had completed 11-of-16 passes for 127 yards and two touchdowns, good for a passer rating of 132.0.
Today isn’t the first disappointing preseason performance for the Bears’ offense, which was shut out in a 22-0 loss to the Broncos in the first week of the preseason.
Traditionally, the third preseason game is when teams most closely resemble the product they will field when games count.
Trevathan, Langford start: Despite missing time over the last week with injuries, Danny Trevathan and Jeremy Langford got first-team reps in Saturday’s game.
“I certainly feel like we’re ready as far as game speed, as far as getting the trials, getting enough plays”, Smith said.
The Chiefs are 5-1 ATS in their last six games, 7-3 ATS in their last 10 on grass, and and 1-4 ATS in their last five Saturday games while the Bears are 6-19-1 ATS in their last 26 home games and 1-4 ATS in their last five overall.
Just one final preseason game remains for the Bears before Week 1.
Smith, playing only the first half, completed 20 of 30 passes for 181 yards as Kansas City controlled the ball for almost 22 of the 30 minutes. Shaw screamed in agony and players kneeled as he was tended to on the field.
On the team’s official Twitter account, the Chicago Bears posted that coach John Fox said Shaw’s was “very serious” and he was taken to the hospital.
“I thought our red-area defense improved”, said Fox. Leonard Floyd, who missed a practice with a hamstring injury, was in uniform but did not play.
And while the Chiefs have been missing a triumvirate of Pro Bowl, run-stopping defenders in safety Eric Berry, outside linebacker Justin Houston and outside linebacker Tamba Hali, you could tell following the Rams game a week ago that it bothered them.
To make matters worse, the Bears lost starting cornerback Tracy Porter to a concussion late in the second quarter. Porter was slow to get up and was escorted to the Bears’ locker room and didn’t return.
