Bears release quarterback Jay Cutler

Glennon isn’t Jay Cutler. I’m hoping for the best, but I’m not getting my hopes up.

So, are the Bears better off with Glennon under center than they would be if Jay Cutler was still in town? Friday, he cited a go-route catch Kevin White made in Dallas, praised Cam Meredith’s durability and touted Jordan Howard’s Pro Bowl rookie season. Seattle knows that all too well after Matt Flynn didn’t transform into another Matt Hasselbeck after arriving in 2012 from Green Bay. They were speaking about Glennon and New England Patriots backup Jimmy Garoppolo, who perhaps could be available in a prospective trade if some team is willing to offer a king’s ransom of draft choices to New England.

That leaves Cleveland, Houston, San Francisco, Buffalo and the Jets. He completed 59% of his throws for 19 touchdowns against nine interceptions. The Sporting News past year released its list of the 40 most hated players in National Football League history, and Cutler ranked 12th.

In his career with the Bucs, which started in 2013, Glennon has played in 21 games, starting 18.

That’s a fair question since Glennon last started two-plus years ago. The Bears are going to pay a dude $15 million a year who wasn’t started a game since 2014. Chicago could make the call on whether to carry a third quarterback or not, and still fall further down the list after the offseason is done. “I grew up in IN rooting for the Bears as a kid, so it was an honor to wear the Bears uniform and play quarterback at Soldier Field for my favorite childhood team”. He was constantly working with a variety of head coaches and offensive coordinators. Pace confirmed that the Bears will be looking for a developmental quarterback in the draft as well. Cutler is much more athletic, is able to avoid sacks better, and has just as good of an arm as Glennon. Cutler threw 23 touchdown passes that year despite being sacked 52 times. They cut him shortly after the new league year began. Osweiler was benched this past season in favor of Tom Savage, only to regain the starting job for the playoffs after Savage suffered a concussion. He served as Winston’s backup the last two seasons.

Wouldn’t a move such as this make the MetLife boobirds, should they decide to show up in November and December, euphoric Woody Johnson didn’t raise ticket prices? None was selected in Chicago’s previous two drafts.

Glennon does have experience as a starter which is a plus but the amount they are paying him is the main problem in this deal.

The Bears now hold the third overall selection in this year’s draft after going 3-13 this past season, and could potentially look to select one of the top three quarterbacks in this year’s draft class.
