Bears trade another linebacker, this time to Patriots
Earlier Monday, the Bears traded defensive end Jared Allen to the Panthers for a sixth-round pick. Bostic was also behind coming into the season as he was dealing with back injuries in the offseason. After chatting with reporters, Bostic spent several minutes with special teams assistant coach Ray Ventrone at his locker going over plans for the next two days of the bye week.
Jon Bostic had a suitcase beside his new locker Tuesday afternoon, less than 24 hours after he was shipped by the Chicago Bears to the defending Super Bowl champion New England Patriots.
The New England Patriots will inherit Bostic’s current contract deal, which runs until the next season. Bostic had fallen out of the starting lineup with the Bears. He has not yet played in 2015.For the Patriots, they’re getting a speedy and athletic linebacker who has never lived up to his second-round billing. In the offseason, he said a reported back problem was a result of alignment issues from his feet as he’s flat-footed. He made the initial 53-man roster, only to mostly watch from the sidelines as Dion Lewis established himself as the dual-threat back Cadet was thought to be.
“They came down to Florida; I knew obviously that they were a team that definitely likes Florida guys”, Bostic said.
Pace’s directive is clear – get players who fit into what Fox is trying to accomplish and the 38-year-old GM seems to be taking a more proactive approach than a typical National Football League power broker.
In 13 games and eight starts last season, Boston led the Bears with 127 tackles and three passes defensed.
“You’ve just got to go out and do your job, and that’s it”, Bostic said in front of his locker that doesn’t yet have a nameplate.
