Bears trade offensive guard Ryan Groy to Patriots
The Patriots reportedly made a trade on Monday that will add a little more depth to their offensive line.
Pending the completion of physicals, the Bears will send veteran offensive lineman Ryan Groy to the New England Patriots for linebacker Matthew Wells. He appeared in 4 games, starting 3 for the Bears in 2014. He saw action at fullback, left guard, left tackle, and center. Jordan Mills is also a possibility to slide inside from his current right tackle position. For that reason, perhaps the move doesn’t come until it’s a matter of necessity.
Prior to being selected by the Patriots in the 2015 NFL Draft, Wells spent his previous four years playing for Mississippi State University. It’s possible the Bears will receive only a conditional draft pick in exchange for Groy.
Groy became part of the NFL in 2014 as an undrafted agent from Wisconsin.
December 31, 2014; Miami Gardens, FL, USA; Mississippi State Bulldogs linebacker Matthew Wells (22) yells at Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets running back Charles Perkins (21) in the second quarter Orange Bowl at Sun Life Stadium. His primary role if he makes the team would likely be special teams kick coverage. I wish him the best in Chicago.
