Beastie Boys’ Ad-Rock Slams Neo-Nazis: ‘Hate Has No Place In Brooklyn’
Friday morning, it was discovered that Adam Yauch Park, a playground in Brooklyn Heights named after the late member of the Beastie Boys, had been vandalized.
The racist vandals puked nazi swastikas and the words’ Go Trump’ around the park on Friday but on Saturday locals retaliated by turning the hate into love covering the offensive defacement with hearts.
Stiller called on President-elect Donald Trump to take a stand against the acts of intimidation happening across the country.
Beastie Boys’ Adam “Ad-Rock” Horovitz spoke at the protest. The Southern Poverty Law Center has noted a drastic uptick in hate crimes, receiving almost six months’ worth of reports of hate crimes in a one-week period.
The founding Beastie Boys member urged concerned citizens to protest, donate money to Black Lives Matter, Planned Parenthood, and The United Way of Flint, Michigan. We elected a president that is giving our children the message that it’s OK to attack people of color.
Hundreds were in attendance at the rally, where attendees carried signs that read, “No sleep til’ justice in Brooklyn” and “Trump, where’s your anti-hate rally?” I reject Donald Trump’s vision for America.
“New York City, I’m asking you to do the same”. The playground was named after Yauch’s death in 2013 and it is particularly sad that neo-Nazis chose to vandalize a place that was especially designated for children. The park is a memorial to Beastie Boy Adam Yauch (a.k.a. MCA) who died in 2012.
The vandalism was removed and painted over last night after the offices of New York Senator Daniel Squadron and Lander informed New York City Parks and Recreation, a spokesman confirmed. A “rally against hate”, to be attended by NY elected officials, community leaders and music groups, is scheduled for Sunday, according to Pitchfork.
