‘Beauty and the Beast’ casts a spell on the world box office

Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” is a live-action re-telling of the studio’s animated classic which refashions the classic characters from the tale as old as time for a contemporary audience, staying true to the original music while updating the score with several new songs. Many more are on the way, too, including those for “Dumbo”, “Mulan”, “Aladdin” and “The Lion King”.

Dan Stevens brings a warmth and charm to Beast as you empathise with him as he progresses through the film and see him fall in love with Belle and he gives the most emotional singing performances out of all the cast.

The ball featured costume contests, cake and meet-and-greet opportunities with characters from the movie.

We live in the age of remakes and sequels of movies that are decades old. “We figured that by doing an event like this, not only is the movie memorable, but for the younger kids, they’ll remember this event maybe for their lifetime”. First, La La Land is now in twelfth place this weekend, with just $530,000 in estimated grosses.

Smashing box office records in its opening there-day weekend, it has hit an unexpected $17o million according to industry estimates and is soaring high in the hearts and minds of people likewise, within the country. We finally get answers to questions that weren’t answered in the 1991 version. It’s in the number two spot at the box office. We only saw a glimpse of this in the animated film.

I was in awe how Disney somehow managed to retell the same story for the third time (including Broadway), and yet I still found myself with tears in my eyes as the story unfolded. In the live action film, we see Belle actually meet contention with the villagers for her educated upbringing. “Is this OK instead?’ I said, ‘Yeah, this is pretty good!'” “I don’t think that was going to dissuade anyone except the most narrow-minded from seeing this film”. “It’s a great opportunity for a date”. This particular scene and song were easily my favorite parts of the movie. However, an unnecessary added plot (and 40 more minutes of film compared to the original), a miscast Emma Watson and an insulting subplot for LeFou left me disappointed. “They could change little things, but I don’t want any big changes”. Belle is an inventor, not just an assistant to her father, and invents her own washing machine.

A key facet to the story of “Beauty & the Beast” is the cursed castle with its beastly master and talking inanimate, household objects. I had always been a fan of the American animation studio and movie outfit’s “ever after” stories and I nearly did not blink as I watched the film because I could not afford to miss any scene.
