Beauty and the Beast pulled from cinemas in Kuwait
While Disney has proven that remakes can work to make bigger box office draws (“Beauty and the Beast” has broken box office records with its opening weekend), it fails to realize that the true artistic value lies in cultivating the new.
“I say “princess” because actually Belle isn’t a princess”.
I thought nothing would ever compare to the original movie’s “Be Our Guest” music and dance number, but this new version surpassed my expectations.
Sorren adds that LeFou’s effeminate gestures reinforce stereotypes about gay men, and that his unreciprocated feelings for Gaston could cause “straight people-especially the young viewers who will undoubtedly see “Beauty and the Beast”-to think that their gay friends are going to develop creepy, obsessive crushes on them”. If you haven’t seen either, the live-action remake will still impress, but will lack nostalgia. I was so wrong.
“Beauty and the Beast” is rated PG for some action violence, peril and frightening images.
On the drive home from the theater, I asked my family members if they were entranced by “Beauty and the Beast”.
None of this is necessarily bad, though both actors do feel somewhat miscast, but it does make the film’s ostensible inclusiveness feel a bit strained. The film is a almost exact replica of the animated version with a few minor changes to the script, as well as the very much undesired addition of a couple new songs. It, too, boasted a tremendous cast and gorgeous, ornate costumes and sets, anchored by a deliciously camp Cate Blanchett as the Evil Stepmother. So the live action versions didn’t have the same impact. “The toughest one was probably Mrs. Potts”. With cartoons, it’s easy to get away with minimalism when it comes to personified household items. The film took on the daunting task of recreating these famous animated characters with CGI. No, not because it bothered them – because their government could stop them from seeing the film! Maybe that’s a good thing for its dedicated fans-they know what to expect and get exactly that. This character was far more prominent in this film than the older animation.
The plot is largely similar to the 1991 animated original: Belle (Emma Watson) is captured by the mysterious Beast (Dan Stevens) and must teach him to love in order to break a magical spell.
Watson also brings a generic but genuine performance to the character of Belle, highlighting Belle’s individualistic and strong attitude. People love movies because of the experience, warts and all.
The most shocking part of the film’s altered narrative is that, toward the ends of the film, Belle joins the climactic battle between the Beast and Gaston. Similarly with Dan Stevens, he makes a great Beast but is let down by his musical number. There are so many reasons to watch it, some I didn’t mention. “Alan had the very long relationship with her from the Harry Potter films, and very early on he spoke about her traits, her activism, her work with the United Nations”.
