Beckham ‘pretty concerned’ after ankle injury
Beckham was shown on the ESPN telecast kneeling down in pain outside of the Giants’ visitors’ locker room, and now the Giants must hold their breath.
Beckham was unhappy with the hit from Boddy-Calhoun, and he stared him down as he walked off the field.
Beckham’s college teammate and good friend, Jarvis Landry, took to Twitter after Beckham’s injury to express his displeasure with the National Football League preseason.
“I don’t know, it’s just football I guess, preseason”, he said, shaking his head, according to the Associated Press.
McAdoo also didn’t seem upset. Boddy-Calhoun came in low and slammed into Beckham’s knee.
Collins was among the players who said something after the hit.
The issue is really less about the players involved or the timing of the hit, but more about how the adjusted rules on “defenseless receivers” has forced defensive backs to go low.
Fortunately for the Giants, Beckham suggested that he will be ready for Week 1. “Preseason.” Long pause. “So”.
But, again, the hit itself was legal. He is alluding to the mandatory fines for hitting a defenseless receiver above the shoulder.
Beckham exited Monday’s loss to the Browns just under a minute into the second quarter.
Is it time for the Giants and fans to enter a state of hysteria because an offense that is supposed to be capable of executing aerial assaults versus any defense, let alone against one with few playmakers, failed to deliver?
Beckham wouldn’t say if he thought the hit was a dirty play. “I’ll leave it at that”. “Let someone have done it to him watch how upset he would’ve been”.
Despite being undrafted, Boddy-Calhoun caught on with the Browns and continued making plays past year as a rookie, with three interceptions and 43 tackles in 14 games.
“I can not have a teammate next to me playing that way”, safety Landon Collins said. I can’t condone it. “It’s not something I seek”, Collins told reporters.
If the Giants want to earn the right to call themselves legitimate NFC East contenders, let alone have a shot at making a run to Super Bowl LII in six months, they’re going to have to – you know – play better. However, Beckham will likely be pursuing a deal that makes him the highest-paid receiver in the NFL.
