Beef Politics: PM Upset, Amit Shah rebukes Loose Cannons of BJP
“We were here to meet BJP President, had discussion regarding party matters”, he said after the meeting.
Those summoned included Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, Union Minister Mahesh Sharma, party lawmaker Sangeet Som and controversial party leader Sakshi Maharaj.
With the BJP under fire over controversial remarks of its leaders on Dadri and beef row, Shah today cracked the whip and warned them against making such remarks after Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed “extreme displeasure” on the comments.
The man, Mohammad Akhlaq, 50, was dragged out of his house in Dadri area near Delhi and lynched by a mob following rumours that he killed a cow and ate beef. His son was also seriously injured.
As the killing ignited widespread condemnation, a few BJP leaders made comments that appeared to justify the gory murder.
Sources said that the PM felt statements of leaders like ML Khattar, Mahesh Sharma, Sakshi Maharaj and Sangeet Som have embarrassed the party and government.
The recent posturing of these leaders is contrary to Modi’s development agenda for nation in general and Bihar in particular where assembly elections are in progress. Talking to reporters after the meeting, the Maharaj said regional issues were taken up in the meeting and he was not asked for any explanation.
Going little further Khattar had said that Muslims can continue to live in this country, but they will have to give up eating beef.
According to ANI sources, Shah had called the trio for a meeting.
