Behind The Scenes Look For The Movie “Moana”
There were some versions where he had been stranded on this island for one thousand years and had kind of given up. She has been given a quest: Return a magical stone to a distant island, so an earth spirit will bring prosperity back to the land. But as he makes his escape with the stone, a very big lava monster named Te Ka thwarts him, losing the pebble in the vast ocean. When the fish begin to run dry around the island, the ocean chooses Moana to go on an adventure to restore the Heart of Te Fiti.
The twist in plot appeared when Moana’s clan and tribe dampen the heart of the bold young girl from leaving the comforts of their lush island.
This brings us to Maui, the demigod voiced by wrestler-turned-movie-star Dwayne Johnson.
Ignoring her parents’ warning, she sets sail across the Pacific Ocean to demand that a powerful island god reverse bad times. Moana corrects him, telling him she’s not a princess, she’s the daughter of the chief. And her titular movie is not just old-style Disney, but in the proudly modern tradition of “Mulan” – gently adding diversity without turning everything into multiculturalism lecture. What was your favorite act of kindness in the movie? Hei Hei the glassy eyed chicken also perks up the film, and of course, the half-mentor, half-villain, comic demigod, “Maui”. The art of wayfinding is an important part of Moana, but, for those who aren’t familiar with its use in Moana, what is wayfinding, exactly? There’s no prince destined for Moana’s hand, and while she does spend the majority of the movie with a beefy demi-god, their relationship is strictly platonic. And Maui is heavy.
This image released by Disney shows characters Maui, voiced by Dwayne Johnson, left, and Moana, voiced by Auli’i Cravalho, in a scene from the animated film, “Moana”. And Moana is more than strong – she is relentlessly fearless. Bill Schwab, Moana’s art director, told the Washington Post that they knew from the start that Moana’s an “action hero“. “Life goes on, and we have a pretty normal life all things considered”. The way Moana’s hair flows in the wind is a technical marvel, not to mention all the moving water that is unmistakable from the real thing. (I’ll throw a fit if it doesn’t make the Academy Awards shortlist for best original song.) Lin-Manuel Miranda of Broadway musical Hamilton fame is, unsurprisingly, behind a handful of the songs on the score-and the studio couldn’t have picked a better person for the job.
More colorful, more fun, the protagonist more fearless than ever before, Moana takes its genre and stretches it as far as it can go, seizing the hearts and eyes of viewers along the way. Never before have I felt such an immediate urge to listen to the soundtrack after walking out of the theater.
The film, directed by Ron Clements and John Musker (The Princess and the Frog, Aladdin), is Disney in its element.
If 2016’s pace continues, United States movie lovers will purchase a staggering $11.61 billion worth of tickets – easily a new high.
