Belichick: Surging Chiefs hard to plan
Kansas City isn’t considered to be the NFL’s best team, and five of the remaining eight playoff teams have better odds to win Super Bowl 50.
Kansas City (12-5) has won 11 straight games, including the victory over the Texans. The Chiefs next game will be against the New England Patriots in the AFC divisional round. “There’s a lot of guys that have vision on the quarterback”. There’s a lot of offensive mistakes, I think Kansas City does a great job protecting the ball and taking advantage of their scoring opportunities, and then they’ve got a good rush, they’ve got a good front.
Maclin is the Chiefs best wideout and without him, the Chiefs offense will be hampered. “Every week that’s our plan, that’s our goal: Dominate every snap”. Not even the Carolina Panthers (15-1), can say they have been as successful as of late, as the NFL’s website points out.
The Houston Texans probably regret starting Brian Hoyer, who got blitzed out of his mind and threw four interceptions and lost another fumble, leading to the biggest road shutout in National Football League playoff history. Belichick won’t find much to pick on in the Kansas City Chief defense.
Then there were the interceptions, which put it out of reach. Peters had another to further validate his rookie of the year candidacy.
Smith started off slow in this one but controlled the tempo throughout and boosted the Chiefs to victory.
Both Clowney and O’Brien said the outside linebacker knew before Saturday that he would not be able to play against the Chiefs. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, he is the first player to attempt at least 30 passes and complete fewer than half of them without a touchdown in a home playoff game.
“I guess it’s good deal”, Berry said.
“He’s been working pretty hard at it, so we’ll see as the week goes”, said Brady. So while it appears the Chiefs are clicking on all cylinders, there are just a couple of concerns for with the Chiefs going forward. Still, it’s the Chiefs who just might present the most matchup issues for a Patriots offense that sputtered down the stretch.
Hoyer turned the ball over four times in the half, but the Texans were down only 13-0 going into the break.
Defensive co-ordinator Bob Sutton insists that nothing has changed schematically. Ironically, their last win was against another Houston based team, the Houston Oilers. “You get to the playoffs, and first round, if things don’t go well, that rips your heart out”.
Not to mention a whole lot more opportunistic. “Until we do that, no, I’m not going to be satisfied and it’s going to hurt whenever we get knocked out before that”.
“That’s just a dirty play”, Watt said.
