Bellerin commits future to arsenal
Arsene Wenger says he always felt Hector Bellerin could be something special for Arsenal, but has warned that despite a fantastic breakthrough season and the signing of a new contract, he can’t feel assured of his place in the team.
The Spanish full-back was a revelation in Mathieu Debuchy’s absence last season and made the right-back slot his own. “I expect him to continue to develop (in the new season)”. “I just want to cement my place in the first team, get more games and hopefully stay for a long time”.
“I am sure it will be good for Ajax and he will have an opportunity to play in the Champions League which will be vital for his experience”.
Arsenal signed Bellerin from Barcelona in the summer of 2011 and he was promoted to the first team a year ago. “I’m really pleased he gave me the chances and the trust”. “The fact that I came to Arsenal means that I want to play here”.
And now the right-back has been rewarded with a new contract after impressing in Mathieu Debuchy’s absence for the north London side.
“I made that decision when I was young to come over here, and I’m not thinking about my future, I’m just thinking about playing for Arsenal and doing well”.
“Last year was mad for me”, said Bellerin.
Bellerin ended his debut season in the first-team with an FA Cup winner’s medal, but he too is fully aware of the challenges.
Spain and Arsenal FC’s right-back for the next decade?
“We have trained really hard over the past two weeks and the team is looking really good”, the Spaniard told Arsenal Player.
