Ben Affleck to direct, star in ‘Batman’ standalone film?
According to Deadline, Ben Affleck will co-write (with comics scribe Geoff Johns), direct, and star in an upcoming Batman solo movie.
It’s been rumored for a while now, but today we now have more concrete reports that are confirming Ben Affleck will be helming his own solo adventure under the cowl.
(CNN)Acting A-lister Ben Affleck is teaming up with comic book A-lister Geoff Johns for a new Batman movie.
Earth One also explores how Batman’s actions may be partially responsible for the development of some of his most notable villains, like Scarecrow and the Riddler.
The news that Affleck is to direct a Batman standalone movie isn’t new.
Affleck did win a Golden Globe for Best Director for his film “Argo” but was snubbed at the Oscars that same year. And not only that, he’ll be co-writing and directing the film which is slated for some time after “Justice League” in 2017. We also can’t forget his writing work on Good Will Hunting, which also received a tiny gold statue (or several, if we’re being honest).
Sources tell Variety Warner Bros. has given the greenlight to Affleck’s next directing gig “Live By Night“, with plans to begin production this November.
Affleck will make his debut as Batman in March when Batman v. Superman is released. From Deadline: “The Batman movie would shoot after he finishes Live By Night, and the plot would reflect the Batman character that emerges after Batman V Superman and Justice League“. But the meeting between Batman and Superman hardly looks set to be a cheery one.
