Ben Carson Takes a Trip to Jordan to Meet With
WASHINGTON (AP) – Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson is in the Middle East this weekend to meet with Syrian refugees.
“I know many Syrians and have a daughter-in-law with a Syrian background and it was hard not to think about the happy lives that they were leading in Syria, before this terrible tragedy befell them and forced them to flee and become refugees”, Carson told Breitbart News in an exclusive statement”.
Carson said he will offer “real solutions” to the refugee crisis in the coming days – a crisis, he said, “created in part by the Obama (and) Clinton Administration’s failed policies”.
The trip, which was initially reported by the New York Times on Thursday evening, was in the works for more than two months, Carson said. Many Republicans have linked the Paris attackers to Syrian refugees, although European authorities have yet to confirm such connections.
According to the U.S. Embassy in Amman, the Jordanian capital, the United States has donated more than $4 billion since the start of the crisis, including $1.4 billion in food assistance.
The retired neurosurgeon said in a statement released by his campaign that he “saw pain on the faces of mothers and children”. Advisers have conceded that his knowledge of global affairs isn’t where it needs to be and have expressed hope that missions like his two-day trip to Jordan will help. But Jordan is a small country.
“We must end the war and prioritize helping the millions of Syrians who want to stay near their homes”, said Dr. Carson.
“Many organizations are trying to help injured Syrians and refugees, but they are overwhelmed, said Colyer who has volunteered during the Syrian conflict over several years”.
The trip comes as Carson has faced harsh criticism about his lack of foreign policy expertise – as well as his strong stance against admitting Muslim refugees, some of whom he described as “mad dogs”, into the United States.
“If there’s a rabid dog running around in your neighborhood, you’re probably not going to assume something good about that dog”, Carson said.
What do you think about Dr. Ben Carson’s views? When issuing the order, Brownback said, “We must take immediate action to ensure terrorists do not enter the nation or our state under the guise of refugee resettlement”.
Syrian refugees are largely barred from working legally and have to resort to informal, low-paying jobs if they can find employment at all. “The global community must do more”.
