Ben Carson Trolls CNN, MSNBC, Politico on Twitter Before GOP Debate
I also wrote an add-on to the post arguing that the thrust of the Carson campaign’s push back was “unpersuasive”.
Rather than blame the media for exercising their rights and their duty, Ben Carson needs to get his story straight and be prepared to answer for what he has written and said, to the people he wants to elect him president.
“As Republicans, we have to be absolutely accurate”.
“Carson is constantly saying things that he later has to defend, explain, or apologize for”. “It has a feel of, ‘Gotcha”. Oh, well, you said this when you were in kindergarten.
“Welcome to politics”, he said. The article featured Carson’s mother, Sonya Carson, who told author Michael Ryan that the incident involving an attempted stabbing had occurred. “That fueled the media frenzy, which is what they are trying to do to Ben Carson”. “Utahns value good character and humility”.
Politico’s Kyle Cheney was the first to question Mr. Carson’s claim he was offered a scholarship by the West Point academy. In an interview with BuzzFeed News on Monday, Curtis Bakal, an editorial assistant at the satirical Yale Record who says he helped write the fake test, said he was “99% certain the way Carson remembers it is correct”. They get details wrong (freshman year, junior year) and impose larger themes onto disparate groups of events the way that we’re all liable to. (Is there any genre as unreliable as the “inspirational memoir”?) And I don’t ultimately expect Carson to be the Republican nominee: He’s the sort of candidate who soars in early polls and perhaps even does well in Iowa, but those aren’t always the people who actually win the final prize.
It is not fair to Republicans for a Republican candidate to not be vetted. Williams insisted that Carson was offered a full scholarship to the academy, though Carson has conceded that he never applied nor was he admitted to the prestigious military academy. “It’s pretty bad”, he added, referring to Kyle Cheney, who filed the report on West Point for Politico. “I believe that he is telling the truth”. He said, “there is a desperation on behalf of a few to try to find a way to tarnish me”.
Beth Powers, the Utah organizer for Carson’s super PAC, said she hadn’t heard the challenge to Carson’s record, but it didn’t change her opinion of him. “So I just don’t know what to think”, Trump said on CBS” “Face the Nation.” Afterward, Sgt. Hunt introduced me to General Westmoreland, and I had dinner with him and the Congressional Medal winners.
In a telephone survey of 603 Tennessee voters October 25-27, the threshold question posed: “Of all the candidates now running for president, can you please name the one person you would most like to win the election?” Carson has come under media scrutiny for possibly exaggerating his background and other statements he has made recently.
