Ben Davis wears Bear Bryant hat, picks Alabama on National Signing Day
The fans he built up won’t have to go far to continue following his ascent to national prominence, with the five-star linebacker prospect signing with Alabama on National Signing Day Wednesday.
Davis is the top-rated inside linebacker in the country and the No. 10 overall player according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. The 6-3, 240-pound linebacker had narrowed his options to Alabama and Georgia before choosing the hometown Tide with a houndstooth fedora on National Signing Day.
Alabama and Auburn appeared to be Davis’ top two schools heading into January but when Kirby Smart took over at Georgia, the Bulldogs closed the gap.
Playing time is hard to find for true freshmen in Tuscaloosa, but Davis is talented enough to contribute on special teams and may possibly work his way into the linebacker rotation at some point during the 2016 season. The Alabama campus is a mere 30-minute drive from where Davis played in Gordo, Ala.
Davis’ father Wayne Davis is Alabama’s all-time tackling leader.
Ben Davis has spent his high school years starring for Gordo High in Alabama. “I had to go with my gut and roll with the Tide”.
“I just woke up this morning and said I was going to go with what I first wake up with”, Davis said of when he made the decision.
