Ben Roethlisberger: Foot issue being evaluated

Pittsburgh has played most of the season without franchise QB Ben Roethlisberger and have struggled to a 4-4 record while trying to remain above water until he eventually returns to the Steelers.

That all came after the Steelers blew a 14-point lead. Williams filled in spectacularly for Bell, running for 170 yards and two scores and adding 55 yards receiving.

Brown’s 284 receiving yards is ninth-most in National Football League history.

Carr has 15 touchdowns against only three picks, and last week threw 333 yards with four scores as they defeated the New York Jets 34-20 in Week 8. Also, Brown opens things up for the Steelers offense because defenses have to focus on him in the red zone.

Roethlisberger left the game in the fourth quarter with an injury that NFL Network is reported to be a mid-foot sprain that could force him to miss a few weeks.

That broke a tie and put the Steelers in front 28-21 with 12:13 left in the game. Roosevelt Nix slammed into Taiwan Jones returning the kickoff for Oakland, and the ball popped loose.

When Roethlisberger returned last week against the Cincinnati Bengals, Brown was targeted 11 times, and ended up with six catches for 47 yards and a touchdown, even though Roethlisberger was rusty.

But Oakland was not done. The 24-year-old pass rush specialist is also one of the Raiders’ best run defenders and a prime reason the team owns the second-ranked run defense heading into Sunday. Murray lost the ball and Pittsburgh recovered and the Raiders’ top back spent several minutes on the ground being attended to.

Mike Mitchell – Whether its the coaching of Carnell Lake or the natural tenacity of Mitchell, he is the face of this hard-hitting secondary.

That forced a Raiders punt. The Raiders got a defensive stop and got their chance to tie when the Steelers punted with 2:22 left. They did not make it past the 43 and punted. Carr converted another third down when he found Crabtree for 14 yards.

When Williams was the starter earlier in the season, he had 127 yards rushing against the New England Patriots, and three touchdowns the following week against the San Francisco 49ers. Woodson missed one play, then gutted it out the rest of the afternoon with what he admitted was a “weak” shoulder.

After the Steelers, the Bills, Dolphins, Chiefs and Texans are next in line, now with only three wins each. But DeAngelo Williams is capable, and of course, they still have to deal with Roethlisberger and Antonio Brown – who is arguably, the best receiver in the league. He had made his first 10 with the Steelers, including two in the first half.

None of Brown’s receptions were touchdown catches.

Pittsburgh would win 38-35 on a late field goal by Boswell with seconds left on the clock.

“It’s a tough one”, Oakland cornerback David Amerson said. Roethlisberger’s pass for Brown was tipped away.

The quarterback had previously stepped in under center after Roethlisberger was injured earlier this season and fellow backup Geno Smith failed to impress.

Other things to look for as the Raiders try for consecutive wins in the Eastern time zone for the first time since 2002. It seemed like Derek threw a lot of touchdown passes (4). He also blocked a field goal on Sunday.
