Ben Simmons signs rookie contract with Philadelphia 76ers
The 76ers have signed first-round picks Ben Simmons and Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot.
“Happy to say I’m a part of the family”, Simmons wrote in his tweet, which included a picture of him signing the contract.
Both players are expected to participate on 76ers teams in summer league games at Utah and Las Vegas.
During the full-court scrimmage portion of Sunday’s practice that was open to reporters, Simmons not only demonstrated his comfort handling and distributing the rock, but driving to the basket and finishing as well. “It’s fun. I love getting the challenge”.
“I know a lot of people will be coming for me because I got that number one spot”, said Simmons, who was also rated the top player in the country after graduating from Montverde Academy in 2015.
“You are always a little disappointed when you have a goal and want to achieve it but at the end of the day we can’t be disappointed in anything this evening when you look at the roster and see Ben Simmons there now”, Colangelo said.
With so many free agents agreeing to pretty ridiculous deals with National Basketball Association teams around the league the last few days, one deal that seemed to get swept under the rug Saturday night was a rookie one.
Luwawu-Cabarrot most recently played for KK Mega Leks in the ABA League JTD, averaging 14 points, five rebounds and three assists per game. Brown has not hidden his dislike for the 76ers’ decision to take Simmons ahead of him.
“I said, “All right, OK”, 19-year-old, 201cm tall, Brown said.
