The wedding ceremony was followed by a reception attended by close family and friends, at the centuries-old stunning Mottistone Manor. Sophie Hunter’s maternal great-great-grandfather John Seely’s (first Baron Mottistone) family had purchased the charming property in the 1860s. Cumberbatch spent the night before the wedding at the Royal Yacht Squadron, in Cowes. The staff at the venues had been asked to keep the entire ceremony under wraps.
This is Cumberbatch’s and Hunter’s first marriage. The British hunk previously dated his Star Trek costar Alice Eve, actress Olivia Poulet, model Katia Elizarova and furniture designer Anna Jones.
Sophie Hunter ‘s film and TV credits include appearances in Torchwood and Midsomer Murders, in the past. She studied Italian and French at Oxford. In 2007, Hunter received the Samuel Beckett Award for scripting and directing the avant-garde play The Terrific Electric, at the Barbican Centre.
