Bengals’ Andy Dalton Won’t Need Surgery to Repair Broken Thumb
Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton, who fractured the thumb on his throwing hand while making a tackle on Sunday, won’t need surgery and will be “week-to-week”.
After Sunday’s 33-20 road victory over the rival Bengals in one of those classic, rip-snorting AFC North backyard brawls, the Steelers are rolling. Tomlin gave him a day off after doctors cleared Gay, but he was back at practice by the end of the week and back in the lineup for the 141st straight game.
“It’s disappointing for us as a football team”, Lewis said. He won’t play this week.
The San Francisco Giants and the Cincinnati Bengals face off on Sunday in San Francisco in Week 15 National Football League action. He’s won two Super Bowl titles and been to another, but he (rightfully) hasn’t received full credit for it because each of those teams were led by dominant defenses (first or third in points allowed each trip). The fifth-round pick in 2014 missed his rookie season with a sore passing shoulder, but played well enough during the preseason to win the job as Dalton’s backup. “I’m not really anxious about history”. The real question though is, should we be anxious that he can’t lead this team?
The Steelers also left Cincinnati with a small chance at the AFC North. The Steelers can win the division if they win three remaining games and if the Bengals lose their final two AFC games to the Broncos and Ravens. New England (11-2) is in line for home-field advantage throughout the playoffs with the Bengals and Broncos tied for the second spot.
McCarron has a couple of noteworthy things ahead when the Bengals (10-3) play at San Francisco (4-9) on Sunday.
After two plays made by McCarron pointing to both the excitement and frustration that comes with a young, unproven quarterback, the Bengals offense began to move again. McCarron completed 22 of 32 passes for 280 yards and two touchdown tosses.
The Bengals will likely try to follow the script, even though their running game has struggled. Green’s punt was partially McCarron’s fault – he and offensive coordinator Hue Jackson had been urging the low-key receiver to celebrate a little more after scoring.
“I think it’s just him knowing where he needs to be and me knowing where he’s going to be”, McCarron said.
Asked if he expects Osweiler to start Sunday at Pittsburgh, Kubiak said: “Yeah, nothing has changed until I sit down and see exactly where Peyton is at, where we’re moving this week”.
AJ McCarron becomes the starter and is the only other quarterback on the active roster.

It’s worth pointing out that McElroy did come into a 2012 game late to rally the Jets to a 7-6 win over the Cardinals in 2012 after starter Mark Sanchez was benched. Jackson said Jason Campbell has decided his career is finished and won’t be a candidate….
“A lot was made this week of them being able to clinch the division and get in the playoffs, and we didn’t want us to be the reason that they got in”, quarterback Ben Roethlisberger said. Those confrontations occurred on our side of the ball after plays, outside of the ball, or outside of the 50 in pregame.
