Bengals lose to Cardinals after late penalty, 34-31
There was missed shot down the field to a streaking Marvin Jones. Cincinnati rallied back from a 14-point, fourth quarter deficit to knot things up with a minute left to play. This week, the Bengals suffered a three-point loss to a team that looks poised to capture one of the NFC’s top two seeds.
“No doubt”, he said when asked about the added meaning of a win that kept Arizona in the driver’s seat in the NFC West. “There’s obviously a little extra on the game”. We’ve just got to block it better.
It was a rare penalty, and one that Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis angrily described after the game as a “phantom call”.
Notes: The Seahawks scored touchdowns on each of their first three possessions on Sunday.
But in last week’s loss to the Houston Texans, Dalton managed only 197 yards passing, with no touchdowns and an interception, and posted a rating of 61.
He did lose a fumble on a sack however, which right tackle Andre Smith took responsibility for. “They do great job against that”. “I mean, we’re going to always stay aggressive”. He doesn’t worry about what’s going on.
“We’ve got to just regroup and we’ve got to get focused and we’ve got to go win the football game next week”. Andy Dalton got the Bengals back in the game. Ellington topped team rushing with 61 yards, five carries, one touchdown.
The only teams to sack Dalton through the first six contests were Baltimore (two) and Seattle (four).
But, for the first time in his career, Palmer has the team around him to deal with all that.
But following the bye week, teams have begun attacking the Bengals front five differently. Pittsburgh is coming off a bye and has a game in Cincinnati on December 13. He has been hit 19 times as well. “Like, ‘What are you doing, Coach?’ They know me too well know, and I think they trust Carson also”. “I don’t see how they make that call at that point in the game”.
But they were just seconds away from having to get that 29th victory in overtime. “We lost occasionally in those situations but all in all, we protected the quarterback very well. We’ve got to continue to do better – we don’t ever want him touched”. Elsewhere in the division, the pacesetters pulled out a dramatic win on “Sunday Night Football“.
A look at what the analytics site has to say about the Cardinals. “It was a lot of people”. “Runs, passes. I am trying to communicate stuff”.
As you can see below, Larsen’s hand was literally touching a Bengals player before the backjudge threw his flag on Peko.
“Some teams match up differently than other teams”, Bengals offensive coordinator Hue Jackson said. Once they can be complete from start to finish, the Bengals will be an elite team, a team who can beat anybody. I felt like it was my time. But again we fired at what we thought is our best player.
If not for a block in the back penalty on Dre Kirkpatrick, Brandon Tate might have been considered a hero on Sunday night. His contributions helped the Arizona Cardinals defeat the Cincinnati Bengals 34-31.
With the game newly tied and the Cardinals on their own 16 with 0:58 remaining and no timeouts left, Carson Palmer sliced up the prevent defense with three straight quick passes to get down to the Cincinnati 27, from where it would have been a 47-yard-field goal attempt.
Cardinals punt returner Patrick Peterson, one of the more unsafe returners in the league, averaged just 7.7 yards per return from Kevin Huber kicks with two fair catches. “That’s a tough kick to make if you’re rushed”.
“I’m disappointed in him because of the integrity of this game”, Dalton told reporters after the game.
After Palmer threw his second interception of the first quarter, the Bengals took advantage on their ensuing drive.
