Bengals’ Vontaze Burfict suspended first three games next season
Cincinnati Bengals inside linebacker Vontaze Burfict has been suspended for the first three games of the 2016 National Football League schedule, according to an official statement from the NFL.
Jones has already accused Brown of flopping after being hit in the head by Bengals linebacker Vontaze Burfict and has since said the Steelers wide receiver deserves a Grammy for his performance.
Roethlisberger was injured when he was sacked by Burfict and landed on his right shoulder on the final play of the third quarter Saturday night in Cincinnati. The Steelers’ longtime franchise signal-caller appeared on The Cook and Poni show on Sportsradio 93.7 The Fan on Tuesday and revealed that he suffered an AC joint sprain and some torn ligaments as a result of the hit from Burfict.
Landry Jones will get the majority of snaps in practice early in the week as Pittsburgh prepares for a rematch with the Broncos, whom the Steelers beat 34-27 on December 20 behind the spectacular play of Brown.
Also, All-Pro receiver Brown was put in concussion protocol after a hit to the helmet by Burfict following an incomplete pass that led to one of those penalties and Burfict’s suspension.
DeAngelo Williams missed the Bengals game with a right foot injury. While the prone Brown was being attended to on the field, Cincinnati cornerback Adam Jones received an unsportsmanlike-conduct penalty.
“I looked at him, he looked at me and we knew where we were”, Tomlin said. “I’ll go in tomorrow with the intent to see what I can do”, Roethlisberger told KDKA-FM in Pittsburgh.
Now Jones says he’ll apologize to Brown…but only under certain circumstances.
Under the NFL’s collective bargaining agreement, Burfict has three days to appeal the suspension.
“It didn’t hurt when I reached back to throw”, Roethlisberger said of the drive. “I honestly don’t know”.
The announcement came just a few hours after coach Marvin Lewis said in his season-ending press conference that he didn’t think Burfict crossed the line this season. “But I still don’t believe I should have got a flag for talking to a coach that’s on the field behind the huddle”.
