Benghazi Ambassador’s Mother Objects to Use of Son’s Name In Campaign
Commanday is hoping for an immediate and permanent end to the “opportunistic and cynical use by the campaign” of her son’s death.
Clinton’s interview comes fresh off of the Republican National Convention, during which time various conservative speakers threw the 2012 attack at Clinton’s feet as proof of her failure as Secretary of State.
“I do not blame Hillary Clinton or Leon Panetta”, Stevens said. Mary F. Commanday, mother of Ambassador Chris Stevens, wrote an open letter to Trump and the Republican Party directly objecting to the use of Ambassador Stevens’ name and the story of his death for their political purposes.
The mother of US Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens, who died during the 2012 Benghazi attacks, in a letter to the New York Times asked Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump to stop talking about her son’s death.
Many people were surprised (and not particularly impressed) when Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump chose to eschew tradition at the 2016 Republican National Convention in Cleveland, Ohio, and spend much of the first night focusing on the Benghazi attacks – and presumptive Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton’s role in it as then-Secretary of State.
Mr Trump’s son, Donald Jr, also cited Benghazi as evidence of Mrs Clinton’s shortcomings.
Aside from submitting the open letter, Ambassador Chris Stevens’ mom has not spoken to the media about her cease and desist demand. Family spokeswoman Anne Stevens told The New Yorker last month that the consulate “was not sufficiently protected by the State Department and the Defense Department” before the militants’ onslaught, but criticized a lack of security funding by Congress.
While accepting his party’s nomination, Trump referenced the victims of the attack in his speech. Who is Mary Commanday?
She said that the mission in Benghazi was understaffed, however, her brother knew that.
