Benitez confident in Ronaldo and Real players’ trust
“We’re Real Madrid and we can’t give in”. Benitez defends himself by pointing to the team’s numbers this season.
Ronaldo seems to be fed up with Real Madrid’s manager Rafa Benitez.
However, Benitez denied he had any issues with the three-time Ballon d’Or victor before Real’s Champions League clash against Shakhtar Donetsk.
Rafael Benitez was given a vote of confidence last night by Real Madrid’s president, Florentino Perez, who appeared to blame former coach Carlo Ancelotti coach for Saturday’s El Clasico defeat.
First Alex Teixeira scored from the penalty spot before Dentinho’s header cut the deficit to 4-2.
Benitez’s side were rocking but held on for the victory, which ensured they won Group A and will go into the draw for the last 16 as a top seed.
“We played extremely well, not counting the final few minutes”.
Yet, there was not enough time to complete the come-back, and Rafa Benitez men brought the three points home and secured the first spot in the group.
In La Liga this season, Ronaldo’s Real Madrid side have recently suffered back-to-back defeats. Perez said: “Ronaldo has never said, “With this coach we will never win”.
“Those today were avoidable”. With more concentration we would avoid that – and be just as solid as before. But Rafa is all about the team, he is not a fan of individual players.
It wouldn’t take long for Ronaldo to make amends, however, as he combined with Modric and Gareth Bale to put the Spanish giants up in the 18th minute.
“There were some changes, it is very important to retain competition for places among the squad”, he said.
‘We need to show character on the pitch and those that played tonight did that. He’s the father of 15-year-old Ben Lederman, who was the first US player ever admitted to Barcelona’s famous La Masia youth academy in 2011.
The rout continued in the 71st minute as Bale escaped down the left wing before picking out Ronaldo, who was able to score at the second attempt.
“I am absolutely confident that players still trust me”, he said.
“I’ve been in football many years”.
“But I only talk about this moment”.
“We’re in November and our objectives remain the same”.
Louis van Gaal’s team created plenty of chances, but in the opposition box they looked toothless and Wolfsburg now top Group B.
