Beno Udrih to undergo season-ending foot surgery
Miami Heat guard Beno Udrih will undergo surgery on his right foot and is expected to miss three months, the National Basketball Association club announced Wednesday.
Udrih hurt his foot Monday in Miami’s win over the Indiana Pacers.
From soreness to surgery, it’s another big hit for Miami’s frontcourt, as Udrih is the second point guard the team’s lost for a considerable amount of time. Udrih was limping slightly right before he was taken out of the game and X-rays performed that night were negative. Tyler Johnson, who had shoulder surgery earlier February, is out for the rest of the season, and the Heat have only 13 players on the payroll after dealing away Chris Andersen and Jarnell Stokes at the trade deadline. Miami has a small amount of room that it can operate in without re-crossing that repeater tax line, but would need to be extremely careful about when to add players.
“He understands what we’re looking for”, Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said earlier Tuesday of Richardson, speaking before the Udrih news was known. He will be the quasi-backup point guard, but expect Dragic and Dwyane Wade to play major minutes and run the offense for a majority of the game. “He fits defensively on that side of the floor already”.
