Bernard Tomic given Davis Cup axe by Australia
Tomic said fellow Australian Nick Kyrgios would sit out if he chose to skip the quarter-final, however, after discussions with Australian captain Wally Masur Healy said he expected Kyrgios to be available.
Tomic first stoked the fire about Kyrgios” possible withdrawal on Friday after Tennis Australia announced his sacking over “disrespectful’ comments.
Tennis Australia says Bernard Tomic will not be chosen for their upcoming Davis Cup tie against Kazakhstan in Darwin later this month.
The 22-year-old vented his frustrations, claiming he had received a lack of support – while attacking Rafter.
“He s prepped by Tennis Australia to know what to say”.
“You know, behind that I think (I’m) very disappointed in Craig Tiley (Tennis Australia chief)”.
Kyrgios is still understood to be livid with Tomic’s axing, and will need to put the controversy behind him as he takes on Gasquet for a spot in the last eight at London’s SW19 for the second consecutive year.
“Where’s the support towards me and my family?” he asked. “There has been no respect I think towards me”.
This past weekend, the Wimbledon tournament was effectively overshadowed in the Australian media by reports of a ongoing stoush between Bernard Tomic and Tennis Australia. “I think that’s sufficient for the time being”. I paid for the court, no problem.
“So rain’s started again”. Maybe I go up to Pat Rafter Arena and practice there. Practice and stuff. Guy coming to me: ‘You have to pay the court and balls.’. Do you think that’s fair?
“Certainly not. That’s where things started changing”.
TA responded via Twitter on Saturday.
“The allegations are misinformed and untrue and he publicly derided some outstanding people”, said Healy.
“We are trying to build a strong culture underpinned by a philosophy of opportunity, not entitlement”. How can you do this?,’ Tomic said.
There had been speculation swirling around the All England Club that the 20-year-old would boycott the quarter-final in protest to Bernard Tomic’s axing over the weekend.
But with his father’s history of volatile behaviour, there’s no telling how the Tomics will react – and what immediate impact his suspension will have on Australia’s team and prospects of sending retiring champion and captain-in-waiting Lleyton Hewitt out in Davis Cup glory. It’s really these guys in Tennis Australia, someone needs to go investigate them, what they are doing and where that money is going. He doesn’t know what he’s doing. What’s his job? Deal with it, Pat.
‘He’s a mask for these guys – Craig and (TA president) Steve (Healy).
‘They are giving him a budget.
“They don’t want to deal with this”. It’s mad. Meanwhile, he’s charging me for balls.
