Bernie Sanders Appears in ‘SNL’ Skit Alongside Larry David, Talks Democratic Socialism
Ever since Larry David did his first impression of Democratic Presidential candidate Bernie Sanders a few weeks ago, people have not been able to separate the two.
The Sanders campaign has grown to love David’s depiction and shifted his weekend schedule to make sure he could be in NY on Saturday to appear on the live NBC show, after it finished changing his Twitter picture to one of David.
The skit ends with the ship arriving safely in NY, and David’s character saying to Sanders’ offer of sharing a cab: “I think we’ve talked enough”. He didn’t even appear in a pre-taped sketch all about him, called “Bern Your Enthusiasm”, where David, playing Sanders, loses the Iowa caucuses by annoying just enough voters in the way only Larry David (or Bernie Sanders, or Larry David – we’re confused) can.
David’s character responded, “sounds like socialism to me”.
“What’s the difference”, David said.
“Wait a second. I am so sick of the 1% getting this preferential treatment”. In order to get onto a lifeboat, David’s character says he should get priority because he is from a rich family.
“Yuuuuuge difference”, Sanders said, mimicking Donald Trump. “I don’t shake disgusting hands”, David says.
Sanders appeared again with David to introduce the show’s performing artist, “The 1975”. “I don’t care if the hand got dookie on it”.
In addition to his popular Sanders’ impressions, David – who like Sanders is Jewish and originally from Brooklyn – is best known for TV shows “Curb Your Enthusiasm”, which he starred in, and “Seinfeld”, which he co-created, co-produced and wrote. Sanders is the longest-serving independent in Congress and a self-described democratic socialist.
Sanders returns to campaigning in New Hampshire on Sunday.
To premiere the season, Sanders Democratic rival, Hillary Clinton, played Val the Bartender alongside her “SNL” counterpart, Kate McKinnon.
