Bernie Sanders appears on ‘Saturday Night Live’
In a sketch about a ship facing an imminent wreck, Sanders enters the scene as an enraged passenger railing against David’s character who’s arguing for a space on a lifeboat on account of his wealthy family.
At long last Bernie Sanders and his Hollywood doppelganger Larry David came face-to-face on Saturday Night Live.
David-as-Sanders finds out he lost the Iowa caucus by about five votes as the small group of people he angered flashes on his television screen wearing spiteful grins and Clinton supporter T-shirts.
The actor, a former SNL writer, also parodied his hit HBO comedy series, Curb Your Enthusiasm, while playing, yep, Sanders.
“What do you think she has a penchant for old bald man. She’s supposed to like me for myself”.
Bernie said, “We need to unite and work together if we’re all going to get through this!”
Democratic presidential hopeful Vermont Sen.
Rumors that Bernie Sanders would stop by SNL this weekend to join forces with long-lost twin Larry David were not greatly exaggerated. Bern Your Enthusiasm is an honest stroke of genius; even if Bernie does not get the democratic nomination when the primaries roll around, we hope that SNL still finds a way to incorporate Larry David’s caricature of him into the show at every possible avenue. “I’m so sick of the one percent getting this preferential treatment”, he said, adding a familiar line from his stump speech. At least the actual Bernie Sanders proved to be a sport by showing up in a later sketch.
Also during the program, Sanders directed a “Bern Your Enthusiasm” skit, based on David’s popular show “Curb Your Enthusiasm”.
Sanders hinted at the appearance during Saturday’s Republican presidential debate in Manchester, New Hampshire.
David dismisses the suggestion, saying that it “sounds a lot like socialism”. David-as-Sanders refused to touch what he called her “germ-infested hand” and returned to his campaign office. Melissa McCarthy is returning to host after a year away from the show, and she will be joined by a musical guest in Kanye West who always likes to do big, experimental pieces during some of his performances.
