Bernie Sanders (briefly) hosted The Late Show with Stephen Colbert last night
“Stephen, that’s what the elites want you to think”, Sanders said.
Bernie Sanders’ New Hampshire victory lap extended to CBS’ “Late Show” on Wednesday, where he finished host Stephen Colbert’s opening monologue by announcing, “Last night, Bernie Sanders won the New Hampshire primary by 22 points – no joke!” However, one particularly bold question was about whether Sanders foresees a “revolution” that’d “end in violence”. “My view is that yes, people have a right to be angry”.
Colbert, who is from the Palmetto State, told Sanders he had to eat boiled peanuts and drink beer in order to win votes.
“You’ve got to go your own way, follow your own heart, the revolution is possible”, Sanders told Colbert before delivering the final line of the monologue. You get me as president, and you get Bill to go to Ireland.
More seriously, Colbert asked about reports that many New Hampshire voters were torn between voting for Sanders and voting for Trump. And contrary to popular opinion, Colbert doesn’t let Democrats make it through an interview without a little sweat. But those who make peaceful revolution impossible make violent revolution inevitable, is what John Kennedy said.
“But I think what they have done is responded to Trump’s false message, which suggests that is if we keep Muslims out of this country, or if we keep scapegoating Latinos or Mexicans that somehow our country becomes better”. And as a special bonus, he pointed out that Bill O’Reilly has threatened to move out of the country if he wins: “So electing me is a twofer!”
As for Sanders, he took a shot at O’Reilly himself. Asked how he plans to break up America’s “oligarchy”, Sanders said, “The only way that I know how to do it is the way change has always come about, in this country and in the world”.
