Bernie Sanders Concedes To Clinton In Nevada
Over on Good Morning America, co-host Robin Roberts demanded of Rubio: “There have been four contests so far across the state”.
For now though she is back on track and headed immediately to the Super Tuesday state of Texas. But exit polls suggest trouble ahead.
“I am so, so thrilled and so grateful to all of my supporters out there”, Clinton said during her victory speech. “But the reason I’m voting for her is because of her experience, what she stands for and what I believe she can do for this country.” said another young supporter. “We might not even need the two months, folks, to be honest”.
Hillary Clinton will win the Nevada Democratic caucuses, the Associated Press is reporting.
Clinton installed staff on the ground last spring, but Sanders’ message of combating income inequality appeared to resonate in a state where many voters are still struggling to rebound after years of double-digit unemployment.
Days in advance of the notoriously unpredictable contest Saturday afternoon, the former secretary of state’s team had tried to downplay the significance of the Nevada results amid concerns that Sanders would pull off a win. “Thank you”, Clinton said earlier on Twitter. This means that for a candidate to take home all 155 delegates, he will have to win a majority of the votes cast statewide and in each congressional district.
A Washington Post-ABC poll in early February found less than 30 percent of minorities supported Sanders. Latinos made up 19 percent of the electorate in Nevada.
RUBIO: Yeah. Well, that is a change of position for him obviously now that he is under duress in this campaign and trying to guess – change his positions once again I guess to appeal, I suppose, and win votes.
The outsider v. establishment split was also consequential in Nevada, 61% of voters said they wanted someone from outside the political establishment, compared with 33% who desired the contrary.
It was the black vote that boosted Clinton’s lead.
Sanders’ wide support among important demographics is a significant obstacle in Clinton’s path to the nomination, and lingering doubts about her honesty also remain. That’s where Las Vegas is, and is where two-thirds of the vote came from in 2008. Nevada was seen as key to salvaging her campaign.
SC and Nevada have condensed the Republican nomination to three paths – Trump, the Establishment Lane and the remnants of the Tea Party.
Polls show that she is absolutely dominating with African-American voters in SC and Sanders is – there’s a big map out there and a lot more delegates to be won and lost and he’s going for those.
During his victory speech in the city of Spartanburg, Trump congratulated his closest competitors for their effort in Saturday’s primary.
A key part of the Sanders narrative has been that he’s engaging new voters and will fashion a revolutionary movement that can drastically change politics in the US.
